File Sizes

Every format comes out at exactly the size you enter. FileMock uses binary megabytes, so 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes.

To hit the exact size, the remaining bytes go where each format allows them: whitespace in JSON and GeoJSON, a comment in XML, HTML and RTF, the archive comment in ZIP, DOCX and XLSX, and a padded name in the last CSV row, so every file stays valid and every row stays complete.

Structured formats have a minimum size: about 2 KB for DOCX and 20 KB for XLSX. The size field shows the allowed range for the selected format.

Common Uses for Dummy Documents

  • Document uploads: test accepted formats, size limits and previews for Word and Excel files.
  • Import features: check CSV imports with large files and thousands of rows.
  • Email processing: feed EML files into mail parsers and archiving tools.
  • Search and indexing: check text extraction and indexing jobs on large text documents.
  • Storage testing: fill folders and quotas with documents of a known size.
