What's in a Generated Video

Each file is a real, playable video encoded with FFmpeg directly in your browser. It shows a test pattern for the duration you set: a colorful gradient by default, or broadcast-style color bars or a focus pattern from the advanced options.

Videos have no audio track. Keep that in mind if your test needs to check sound, audio codecs or audio-only processing.

Size, Duration and Resolution

  • Target size from 0.001 MB to 2,000 MB.
  • Duration from 1 second to 3,600 seconds (one hour).
  • Resolution in advanced options: presets from 240p to 8K, vertical (9:16) and square, or a custom size up to 7,680 pixels. The default is Full HD (1920 × 1080).
  • Frame rate in advanced options: 24, 25, 30, 60 or 120 FPS, or a custom value.
  • Codec in advanced options: H.264 for MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV and FLV, and VP8 for WebM and MKV.

The video is encoded at a bitrate that fits the size you enter, then padded to exactly that many bytes. FileMock uses binary megabytes, so 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes. For targets below 1 MB, the video is automatically limited to at most 640 × 480, 24 FPS and 10 seconds (less for tiny files) so it can still reach that size.

Common Uses for Test Videos

  • Upload limits: check size and duration limits with files just under and over each limit.
  • Transcoding pipelines: feed MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM files at different resolutions and frame rates into your processing jobs.
  • Player compatibility: confirm which containers and codecs your player or platform accepts, including legacy AVI and FLV.
  • Vertical video: test feeds and stories that expect 9:16 videos from phones.
  • Performance: measure upload, storage and thumbnail generation with 4K and 8K files or files of several gigabytes.
